What You'll Do

You will own the data ingestion layer and foundational data architecture that powers our Analytics, Compliance, and AI initiatives. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering, AI & Data.

Your responsibilities
  • Data Ingestion: Own and optimize our ingestion layer using Airbyte (or similar tools), build custom connectors where required, and ensure reliable scheduling, retry mechanisms, and observability. Drive the transition from full data syncs to incremental (delta) loading wherever it adds value.
  • Bronze & Silver Data Layers: Design, maintain, and monitor clean, reliable, and well-defined Bronze and Silver layers in Databricks, providing the trusted foundation for the Analytics Engineer's dbt models.
  • Schema Contracts: Establish and maintain robust schema contracts between the backend platform and the data platform to ensure compatibility and prevent production incidents.
  • Data Quality & Reliability: Build and operate tooling for data quality, including automated testing, monitoring, alerting, schema change notifications, and data lineage.
  • Compliance Enablement: Implement the technical capabilities required for data deletion workflows, Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), and Records of Processing Activities (RoPA). The legal framework is owned by the DPO and VP; your responsibility is its technical implementation.
  • AI Data Infrastructure: Build and maintain the data infrastructure required for AI use cases by making evaluation datasets, training corpora, and inference logs available in a secure, anonymized, reproducible, and production-ready manner.

What you bring

What you'll bring
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field—or equivalent practical experience.
  • Alternatively, 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Backend Engineering with ownership of data platforms.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, along with hands-on experience building and operating modern data stacks (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery, dbt, and ELT tools such as Airbyte or Fivetran).
  • Solid understanding of distributed data architectures and concepts such as schema evolution, backfills, and late-arriving data.
  • A structured, self-driven working style with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Professional proficiency in English (C1+) and German at a minimum of B1 level, or a strong willingness to learn.
Nice to have
  • Experience with Databricks-specific technologies, regulated data environments, or AI/ML data platforms.
  • Familiarity with data governance and data catalog solutions such as Atlan, Alation, or the dbt Cloud Catalog.
  • Contributions to open-source projects in the data engineering ecosystem.
